Japonica InterSect At World Bank

Private Sector Development Forum 2006

- Discusses Micro-commerce Performance Improvement with JI Research -

Dateline: Providence, Rhode Island and Washington, DC USA, April 4, 2006

Japonica InterSect (JI) will discuss improving micro-commerce performance at the World Bank Private Sector Development Forum 2006, “Markets & Growth: What, Where, When, and How?” in Washington, DC on Tuesday, April 4, 2006. Christopher Magarian, a Japonica InterSect Director of Finance, will report at the “Microfinance & Disability” workshop how the Charles & Agnes Kazarian Eternal Foundation’s (CAKE) Community Micro-Commerce (Community) initiative uses JI research to improve performance.

“CAKE requested 3 Titles from Japonica InterSect, its captive subsidiary, specifically to discover top-quartile benchmarks and high value-adding best practices in micro-commerce and disability,” states Magarian. “Community used the research to maximize SROI. Empowered by a substantial increase in performance, CAKE has requested 2 additional micro-commerce Titles to be produced 1H 2006 from JI’s Microfinance Program backlog of 17.”

Currently, 25% of JI’s Microfinance Program Library is devoted to micro-commerce and disability. Titles include “Microfinance & Disability,” “Metrics to Assess Microfinance for the Disabled,” and “Incentives for Lending to the Disabled.” Each Title benefits from JI’s “DCC” core competency -- Discovering top-quartile benchmarks and high value-adding best practices among the world's 110 developing economies, including the BRICs; Changing performance expectations, and Creating value.

“JI supplied the knowledge for Community to substantially raise the bar in servicing the disabled, not just in microfinance, but with job training and placement, business development services, and technical assistance,” notes Stephanie Mesrobian, a Japonica InterSect Director of Global Resources. “Because performance really matters to CAKE and its global network of capitalist-philanthropists (CPs), JI’s Titles provide practical and actionable information to deliver results.”

JI continues to set new DCC metrics records with: 246 benchmarks and 492 best practices discovered; 96,000 hours of research (48 man-years); more than 4,500 source materials analyzed; 963 days of training, and more than 250 professionals in its global network.
